Corporate Glossary

Official terminology for communications, documentation, and regulatory filings.

Terms defined herein govern all passenger agreements. Updates are retroactive.

Icarus Airlines maintains internal terminology to ensure consistency across corporate communications. The following definitions apply to all public-facing materials, regulatory disclosures, and conversations with your next of kin.

Category

Operational

Boldly Operational
Status designation indicating that aircraft are currently airborne and/or intending to remain so. Our preferred alternative to 'safe.'
Controlled Altitude Reduction
Any descent conducted with greater urgency than the flight plan originally specified. Includes but is not limited to: emergency landings, near-ground excursions, and kinetic arrivals.
Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly
A structural event in which the aircraft occupies multiple locations simultaneously. Classified under Atmospheric Reentry Events per OAA §4.7.
Involuntary Disembarkation
Passenger or crew exit conducted outside of standard deplaning procedures. Typically occurs through non-doorway apertures.
Trajectory Recalibration
A course adjustment initiated by physics rather than the flight crew. See also: Non-Scheduled Separation.
Atmospheric Reentry Event
Umbrella classification for any unplanned interaction between the aircraft and the atmosphere it is already inside. Pursuant to internal guidelines.
Extended Approach
A landing procedure in which the runway is reached eventually, if at all.
Non-Scheduled Separation
The parting of aircraft components from the aircraft during flight. A feature of our wax-bonded fleet architecture.
Altitude Advisory Override
The formal process by which flight crew acknowledge, assess, and then disable altitude warning systems. Now automated to save time.
Thermal Excursion Event
A condition in which wing components exceed their manufacturer-recommended temperature range. Recovery protocol: descend.
Proximity Incident
Any instance in which the aircraft approaches another object (ground, sun, satellite, flock of birds, mountain, other aircraft) more closely than either party would prefer.

Personnel

Customer Legacy Team
The department responsible for post-flight communication with next of kin, estate executors, and surviving travel companions.
Flight Crew Continuity Protocol
The procedure by which we replace pilots who have chosen alternative career paths mid-flight. Includes volunteer passenger fast-track training.
Boldly Qualified
An applicant whose credentials, while not strictly meeting FAA requirements, nonetheless demonstrate the confidence and hubris required to operate our aircraft.
Wax Engineer
A materials science specialist responsible for maintaining our proprietary organic bonding compounds. Position requires signing a multi-page NDA and a shorter document titled 'Heat Awareness.'

Financial & Corporate

Synergy-Adjacent Revenue
Income that is conceptually related to our core business, though not technically derived from it. Disclosed in footnote 47 of our annual report.
Shareholder Value Optimization
Any internal decision that increases profit margin. See also: Altitude Advisory Override, Thermal Tolerance Redefinition.
Risk-Calibrated Decisioning
Our proprietary framework for weighing operational risks against quarterly earnings. Typically resolved in favor of quarterly earnings.
Thermal Tolerance Redefinition
The quarterly process by which we adjust the published heat tolerance of our fleet materials to align with observed performance.

Regulatory & Compliance

Olympian Aviation Authority (OAA)
The regulatory body governing Icarus Airlines operations. Founded, funded, and staffed by Icarus Airlines. Independence of the OAA is maintained through rigorous internal firewalls.
Operationally Flexible
A regulatory status indicating the absence of binding safety constraints in a given jurisdiction. A core competitive advantage.
Compliance-Adjacent
Describes operations, materials, or practices that are near compliance with applicable regulations. Not to be confused with 'compliant.'
Pre-Boarding Risk Acknowledgement
The comprehensive waiver executed by all passengers at check-in. Governs everything. Cannot be revoked. Applies retroactively.

Customer-Facing

Complimentary Atmospheric Experience
The ambient air provided in all cabin classes at no additional charge. Volume and composition may vary by altitude.
Weight-Optimized Passenger
A traveler whose checked baggage has been reclassified as 'ballast' and jettisoned for performance reasons. Compensation provided in the form of a complimentary beverage voucher.
Legacy Arrival Designation
A status assigned to passengers whose trip concluded in a manner outside the standard 'departed-arrived' binary.
Survivor's Rebooking Credit
A 15% discount code automatically issued to passengers following a Controlled Altitude Reduction event. Valid on future Icarus Airlines flights only.
